
Hasan Mahmood picked up six for 88 to help SBP dismiss Karachi Blues for 253 in the first-innings before the hosts hit back with two wickets towards the end of the day as the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy kicked off in different parts of the country.
Javed Mansoor made 51 and captain Mohammad Sami contributed 44 to give the total some respectability before the Karachi team struck twice to reduce SBP to 23 for two at the end of the first day.
Ayub shines for Sialkot
Mohammad Ayub was unbeaten on 105 and led Sialkot to a strong position against HBL as the home team reached 253 for five at the Jinnah Stadium. Ayub was given a helping hand by Mohammad Yaseen who made 89.
Kamran Hussain was the lone bowler to make a notable contribution, picking up four for 60 as HBL found wickets hard to come by.
Nasir takes seven wickets
Nasir Malik claimed seven for 42 in an inspired bowling performance as NBP were dismissed for a paltry 153 before Rawalpindi reached 41 for one. Fawad Alam made 51 and Khurram Manzoor hit 44 to salvage some pride for the department.
Babar spins Abbottabad into trouble
Off-spinner Zulfiqar Babar claimed four for 71 but Abbottabad survived the opening day to reach 230 for seven against Wapda. Put into bat, Abbottabad struggled but kept moving to reach a modest total on the first day.
Sabir hits 69 as little play possible
Only a little over 37 overs were possible at the Diamond Ground as PIA made 144 for two against Islamabad. Agha Sabir made 69 before being dismissed at the end of the first day, ably supported by Shaharyar Ghani’s 33.
ZTBL on top against Faisalabad
ZTBL imposed themselves to go well and truly on top against Faisalabad after sending the home team packing for 199 in their first-innings. In reply, they reached 75 for no loss in quick time.
Zohaib Khan finished with five for 51 to destroy the Faisalabad batting line-up at the Iqbal Stadium before Sharjeel Khan hit a quickfire 47 to put ZTBL on top. Zeeshan Asif and Abdul Rauf were the only notable contributors for Faisalabad, chipping in 43 and 42 respectively.
