Deobandis, Wahhabis to join Qadri protests
Deobandi and Ahl-i-Hadith (Wahhabi) parties have jumped on the blasphemy bandwagon, with 40 religious parties resolving to start a countrywide protest movement against the death sentence handed to Mumtaz Qadri, assassin of Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, at an “all parties conference” on Wednesday.
Barelvi parties such as the Sunni Tehreek and Jamiat Ahl-i-Sunnat had been protesting against the anti-terrorism court’s verdict since it was announced on October 1.
On Wednesday, more than 40 parties including representatives of Deobandi groups Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl and Sami groups), Aalmi Majlis Tahaffuz Khatam-i-Nabuwat, Tanzeem-i-Islami, Tehreek-i-Islami, Ittehadul Ulema Pakistan and Jamia Ashrafia – as well as Wahhabi groups Jamaatud Dawa, Tehreek Hurmat-i-Rasool, and Muttahida Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadith – met to discuss a coordinated response to the sentence. Tehreek Namoos-i-Risalat and Tanzimul Madaris, both Barelvi groups, also attended.
The speakers criticised the court’s decision to sentence Qadri to death as against Islamic injunctions and the ideology of Pakistan.
JI Ameer Syed Munawwar Hassan said that the court’s verdict reflected an “unfortunate secularist atmosphere” in Pakistan. He urged the participants to unite against the judgement. He said there would be protests all over the country on Friday.
Tahaffuz Namoos-i-Risalat Mahaz, an alliance of Sunni Barelvi parties, has already called a strike on Friday.
Jamaatud Dawa Ameer Hafiz Saeed said the court’s decision was part of “the conspiracy against Islam” and an attack on Pakistan’s ideology. He said Muslims should stand up and tell the world that they are ready to die but not ready to allow blasphemy. He said all Muslims felt just like Mumtaz Hussain Qadri about the issue.

@Ruhina Hashmi: I think you need to study more hadeeth before commenting and stating just one hadeeth, there is also a hadeeth which states that if a person does kill a person even by breaking the counties LAW for clear blasphemy he can be pardoned.
So you are saying the Prophet (SAWW) himself stated (as Hadeeth means words of the Holy Prophet (SAWW) )something about allowing killing even if it's blasphemy... The concept of blasphemy was not even there when he was alive buddy get your facts straight

Where was Pakistan's establishment when the governor was trampling the legal process, jumping the guns arranging a presidential pardon rather than fighting the case. In a law even if you talk about the globally prevailing law there are punishments and the criminal has to be penalized for his/her crime in order to make it a lesson for others and to keep the society peaceful and saved from crimes... even death penalties are also given....
what would you prefer killing one life in order to make peace assured for the whole society or will you allow others (impressionable) to commit crimes following that one criminal????

@ Talha Khan - I don't remember when Bal Thakre was given a murder sentence and people protested to revoke (that 2 in the name of religion) - The "hats off" is richly deserved for the people of India who ensured that Muslims who were left behind after "their own brothers left them for Pakistan" (expecting them to be killed/converted) were treated as equal citizens. The Indian Muslim today does much better than a Pakistani Muslim on all human development parameters. So instead of becoming emotional ponder and think for a moment. Anyways its your country your lookout- India has no interest in Pakistan - there is nothing you have that we want or ever will.

Crime committed in the name of religion is heinous crime. Supporting such crime is unpardonable in the eyes of God and his humanity.

I wonder how many of these protesters actually are aware of what 'Allah tells us to do' in Quran, and what our beloved prophet showed us by practice. Only to follow what some unfortunate and uneducated Mullahs tells is a serious dis-respect.
Our more knowledgeable Ulema should come out and deplore such protest, and provide the true context in light of Quran and Sunnah. Its these silent majority of Ulema who now needs to speck out before its too late.
What this also shows is the need of our governments to install an education system that brings facts clearly towards religious beliefs, across all segment and if needed also regulate what is being taught at different Madaris and Masjid.

To those people who disagree with these individuals protesting, remember, freedom of expression, freedom of speech and thought is a two way street.
If you're going to allow speech for one group of people but not the other, than you, yourself are a hypocrite. As much as I detest these individuals(read thugs) and what they stand for, they have as much right to protest and speak their minds just as you or I do.
This is the part of democracy that makes a country what it is, the freedom to say what you want even if it offends others.
If these guys were on the streets burning a U.S. flag and saying the U.S. is a terrorist state, as much as I would detest it, you have to understand that is their right, so long as they understand that if I protest against their religion or country, the same rules applies, respect freedom of speech.

No-one objects to democratic protest by anyone including Maulvis. But when they try to intimidate the judge who came up with the decision and threaten violence if the decision is not changed - it no longer qualifies under the democratic right to protest peacefully.

He killed the very same person whom he was supposed to protect. If he had any "Imaan" left, he should have refused to his posting as Mr Taseer's body guard and resigned from his service. In that case I would have called him a public hero. If people come in streets to protect criminals, courts will have difficult time and nation will disintegrate.

Criticism of the man-made blasphemy law doesn’t amount to blasphemy. There is no mention of blasphemy in Quran. Prophet PBUH didn’t kill people for blasphemy. According to Imam Hanifa, a non-Muslim can’t be killed for blasphemy. Death punishment for blasphemy exists in only 3 countries; Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arab, all three the most intolerant nations of the world. Thanks God, the majority, 54 out of 57 countries, are against this law.

From a religious perspective, it seems many Muslims believe Taseer's murder was justified because of his stance on the blasphemy law. This exposes the theological rift between Muslims who believe religious violence is not justified and Muslims who support religious violence. Polls suggest the majority of Pakistani Sunni Muslims support religious violence if it's not directed at themselves. It is not such a large step from supporting Taseer's killer to supporting killing others for "unislamic" activities, which is exactly what we see in the widespread violence across Pakistan. The advocates of violence have a huge advantage in this theological struggle: they are violent, and hence people are afraid to confront them publically for fear of their lives. The religious moderates are loosing this battle for the soul of Islam, yet they are the only ones who have any hope of countering the ongoing radicalization of Pakistani society. Those in power who have strong religious credentials must act to counter radical religious education and indoctrination in the madrassa and the media. Probably too late, but it's your society's only hope.

Secularism is the biggest problem in the country. Even if we bring 1400 back islam of the times of prophet (pbuh) for sure the secular mindset will remain on its way as a big hurdle to implement the sharia law. Nice to see different religious groups unite. It proves that no matter what our differences may be, in the end we are all the Ummat of Prophet (saw).
Those seculars who claim that prophet (saw) forgave people who threw stones, dirt at him (saw) should remember that this was Prophet (saw)'s own decision to forgive them but not a command to all muslims to forgive all the future blasphemers.
Every country has its laws according to its traditions, religion and keeping in view the sentiments of its population's majority. Qadri did not kill ordinary people indiscriminately, rather he had a personal grudge with Taseer due to the later's opposition of the blasphemy law. So this was a case of murder and NOT terrorism. Hence its wrong in the first place for Qadri to be tried at an ATC, he should have been tried by an ordinary criminal court. So the decision of the ATC is null and void from a legal perspective as it can only sentence terrorists and not people who murder based on a personal grudge.
Atleast Shias are not part of it...and never will be!

I think what Mumtaz Qadri did was an inexcusable act but it can be termed as an act carried out in a fit of rage not befitting the death sentence.Salmaan Taseer should have been more sensitive regarding his position on the blasphemy laws as this probably hurt the feelings of pakistan's muslims who comprise 95% of the population and are extremely tolerant,big hearted and magnanimous.I think the court has also made the same mistake here in it's judgement when it didnt show any regard for the sensibilities of the peace loving religious political parties.

The atmosphere in Pakistan is getting polluted with religious fanatacism each passing day, which would give rise to more violence and chaotic conditions in the near future.

All the noise and protests are by the militant religious-political parties. The learned and non-political aalims prefer to voice intelligent reactions.
So many religious parties only make a raucous rigmarole wherever they go. How can they get voted to power by making a nuisance of themselves and taking the country back to the 'stone age?'

I doubt whether Pak govt or court has the guts to implement its judgement. The honest judge who proclaimed the sentence on the murderer Qadri is hiding now. Dont these people read the Hadith they so loudly yell about? Didnt the Prophet, s.a.w. say that killing one human is like killing all of humanity? Affection for Political parties allied closely with terrrorist groups of all colours will haunt the citizens for decades to come. The belief that the violence plaguing the nation is caused by external actors is blatantly false but nevertheless being fanned by a Media being systematically infected by a virulent Jihadi ideology. A detoxification should be speedily launched if citizens want to save their country from imploding violently. Thats Great, In my opinion, despite various differences in all these 'School of thoughts' (and most differences are of Faro'ee nature that can be reconciled or at-least they can agree on dis-agreement) the one and only 'Subject' on which they Unite is Tahafuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat.

All these parties are a curse on Pakistan in particular and on the world in general. Pakistan will get nowhere as long as this curse is not lifted. They are like a disease to our country.
I think it is time to ban all religious organizations for 5 years until peace prevails.
