LAHORE: Former Punjab Governor and PML-Q leader Mian Azhar formally joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) on Wednesday.

The announcement was made in a special event held at Mian Azhar’s residence in Lahore.

PTI chairman Imran Khan, while welcoming Mian Azhar as the new member of his party said the PTI has accomplished a great victory in Punjab today.

Talking to the media after the announcement, Khan said that people are ready to fight against corruption in the country and should come together as one party.

Earlier there were reports in the media that the PML-Q founding president was contemplating joining forces with Khan, after the latter’s recent invitation to join the party.

Azhar was mayor of the metropolitan corporation Lahore from 1987-1991. He was unable to win a national assembly seat in the 2002 and 2008 elections.

Mian Azhar seems to be a clean politician, but he doesn’t have a good track record. He betrayed his leader and joined Musharraf, till he realize what Mush has done with hime it was already too late. IK should be careful and keep him at a distance

Wasn’t the whole point NOT going back to the tried and tested ‘professional’ politicians?

During the 1997 Nawaz Sharif Government, Ex-Governor Punjab (and former MNA), Mian Muhammad Azhar formed a like minded Group, which eventually lead to the formation of current PML-Q

The question now is, will he be able to pull in old camarades, like Khurshid Kasuri etc into PTI folds?

Btw, this is the first major Political figure, in Punjab, who has joined PTI. Pretty understandable, why PTI would term this as “a great victory in Punjab

@Asad Shairani: Mian Azhar is clean person has been Governor of Punjab. He is nice person with good record. PML(N) betrayed him. I think this is a good move for PTI. We need to more people who are clean in their carreer and to see Better Pakistan.

Where is Hassan. Told ya, you can’t win without the support of the same old elite. Politically it’s the correct move; politics is not about ethics but a struggle for power

PTI have nothing new to do and to give nation, as Mian sb,who’s the “great victory” of IK,was a founder of famouse Q league. No doubt in future Imran khan and Mush are at a same stage and “clean politicians” like Mian Sb will be the bridge. A new game has to be start in Punjab. Mian Sb is out of competition or being out by “His friends ” since 2002. Now lets see, what he gives to IK or IK gives to him…. #newGame.Recommend

SO the track record of this man is
    – betrayed two different leaders already (Nawaz and the Chaudhries). What does that showaout his ethics/ It is not just financial rewards that can lead to corruption. It can also be the greed for power – which this man has clearly shown.
    – does not have people’s support (Did no win 2002, 2008 elections)
Imarn says that such a person joining him is a great victory. Is he going back on his idea that the same old people cannot change governance?

In PML(Q), he was the only top leader who could not win his seat. In PTI, he will not be alone.

I think this is a great move. For Imran to come to Power and lead the nation democratically, then he has to pick the right apples out of the basket. This is a good start.
I disagree with those calling it a bad move.
There are good politicians in every party which they cash and make their fortune on. But Imran being clean himself, youth with him and a need for change in the mindset will bring all those isolated honest people by other parties into PTI.
The point is to bring imran to power. Outside Power, he cannot achieve what he wishes for this country.
Wish him well. Go get it Imran.

Big changes come in small steps. He is not a star in Punjab but his clean career and charisma of Imran Khan will give him a certain head start which has already started bothering PML-N. Even if he does not win it will certainly create a pressure on ruling parties to make their image positive. And that’s what healthy competition is all about. Imran Khan has already become a National Hero by challenging conventional parties that have haunted Pakistan for so long. So way to go bravo! May God be with you all along till Victory!!!

Being a voter of PTI, I have a few concerns. Imran Khan Promised, not to go for Professional politicians, at first Malik Zaheer Abbass Then Naeem Ghumman Both Ex-MNAs from PML-Q and now Mian Azhar. Even Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, and Marvi Memon were also offered memberships by PTI. I think Tehreek i Insaf will also be doing traditional politics soon.

This is the first move imran khan which i liked much..Imran you learn the Art of compromise…My opinion to you please please pay attention on the technical areas..Most important is voter list as most of yours youth have not been registered as a voter of Pakistan..Start a campaign from colleges and universities and convince the students to register their votes..As we have seen in past youth are behind you but not voted you because they have not registered their self at any town/council.

Same situation now youngsters joining yours party only on Facebook so now the time to turn their mind for casting of their vote on the day of voting….
