City police have arrested 221 proclaimed offenders and 174 court absconders wanted in 250 cases and 29 car theft suspects during July and August, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir said on Tuesday.
He was speaking at a meeting in his office with a delegation of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
CCPO Tahir said 45 cases were traced to those arrested on car theft charges and 295 cars recovered from them.
The police chief assured the LCCI delegation that security arrangements in place at the major business centres and markets in the city were adequate. He said businessmen should immediately report any suspicious thing or person to the police to prevent any untoward incident.
He said police were working on evolving a strategy to beef up security in commercial areas so that businesses could carry on their activities in a peaceful atmosphere.
LCCI General Secretary Syed Saqlain Naqvi said the business community would extend all-out support to the police in maintaining law and order in the city.
