GUJRANWALA: The Sunni Tehreek took out a rally against the death sentence to former governor Salmaan Taseer’s murderer Mumtaz Qadri. Hundreds of protesters in the district shouted slogans in favor of the blasphemy law. The protesters said the government needed to interfere in the matter and get Qadri released. Separate rallies were taken out on GT Road against awarding the death sentence to Mumtaz Qadri. In Gujranwala, Maulvi Rizwan and Qari Akbar led the rally and Zahid Habib led a protest rally in this regard. The protesters chanted slogans against the government and appealed to the authorities to revoke the death sentence. “They cannot mean to hang the man who stood for defending Islam. We will not tolerate this and we will free Qadri,” said Akbar. Protesters said that the death sentence must be appealed at every level and said that Qadri would live in the heart of millions. Later the participants gathered at Sheranwala gate and burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the government.
