Chained to work: City govt officials can’t leave work till it’s done

KARACHI:

According to the orders of Karachi DCO Roshan Ali Shaikh, officials including EDOs, district officers and superintendent in charges of the city government cannot leave their offices from 9 am to 1 pm.

“I noticed that many officers leave their office using meetings as an excuse,” he said while talking to The Express Tribune. “I have directed them to prove they are efficient public servants and they should address people’s complaints during that time.”

He said that the overall performance of the officials should not be judged solely by the number of meetings. “The union councils have been dissolved but the town municipal administrations (TMA) and the City District Government Karachi are still working.”

Shaikh said that many memos were circulated to request the officials to come on time, but no one paid heed. “The decline of institutions is from within,” he said. If the officers do not work efficiently now they will be replaced, he warned.
