Suspects in robbery, shooting case netted

Police recover stolen mobile phone, motorcycle and weapon used in the crime

HARIPUR:

TIP police have arrested two suspects involved in snatching a mobile phone from a University of Haripur student and injuring him by firing at him.

Police also recovered the snatched mobile phone, the motorcycle used in the crime, and weapons and ammunition.

DSP City Sajjad Khan, along with TIP police station SHO Inspector Shafiqur Rehman, told a press briefing that on Nov 5, 2026, at around 8:45pm, TIP police received information that two men had snatched mobile phones from students on University Road and injured one of them by opening fire.

A case was registered against the suspects under Section 394 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the injured student, Muhammad Tufail.

Following the incident, DPO Haripur Taimur Khan directed DSP City Sajjad Khan and TIP police station SHO Inspector Shafiqur Rehman to trace and arrest the suspects involved in the incident as soon as possible and recover the snatched mobile phone.

One member of the robbery gang was caught by students at the scene and handed over to police. Under the supervision of the DSP City, the SHO TIP police station tactfully took the suspect into safe custody from the agitated students and shifted him to the police station. However, the second suspect managed to escape.

During interrogation, the arrested suspect identified himself as Haibat Khan, son of Salar Khan, a resident of Darband, Mansehra, and named the absconding suspect as Iqbal, son of Saleem, also a resident of Darband, Mansehra.

A 30-bore pistol along with ammunition was recovered from the arrested suspect.

Teams were formed to arrest the second suspect, and raids were conducted at different locations. During one such raid, the second suspect, Iqbal, son of Saleem, a resident of Darband, Mansehra, was arrested.

Police also recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime and the snatched mobile phone.

Further investigation into the suspects is under way, and more important revelations are expected.
