Suspected treatment dispute emerges as possible motive

A 50-year-old doctor was shot dead by a masked gunman inside his clinic in Gulshan-e-Maymar, with police investigating a possible dispute over alleged medical negligence as a motive behind the killing.

The incident occurred around 9pm on Friday at Agha Medical Centre in Sector X-2, where Dr Agha Muhammad Kashifuddin was attending to patients. The assailant arrived on a motorcycle, entered the clinic and opened fire at the doctor before fleeing. He sustained a bullet wound to the forehead and died after being shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A murder case (FIR no 536/2026) was registered at Gulshan-e-Maymar police station on Saturday under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the doctor's widow, Sundas Ahsan, against an unidentified suspect.

According to the complainant, her husband's assistant, Muhammad Hassnain Tanveer, told her that the attacker initially inquired whether the premises belonged to Dr Kashif before pulling out a firearm and shooting him.

SHO Muhammad Ali Niazi said preliminary information suggested the suspect had accused the doctor of providing improper treatment to his sister and mother. Reports from the area also indicated that the killing might have been linked to the alleged death of a woman following an incorrectly administered injection at the clinic. However, police have yet to establish the motive.

The SHO said the doctor, a father of five originally from Bahawalpur, had been running the clinic for around 20 years.
