Couple robbed through fake prize scam

RAWALPINDI:

A gang comprising a woman and two men allegedly duped a citizen and his wife out of cash, a mobile phone and a gold ring by luring them with the promise of a prize hidden inside a spice box in the Naseerabad area.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

According to police, the complainant, Mumtaz Hussain, told investigators that he and his wife were at their home in Miskeenabad when a car carrying a woman and two men stopped outside their house.

The suspects knocked on the door, and the woman, who was carrying a box of a well-known spice brand, persuaded the couple to open it, claiming that it contained a prize. They told the couple that they would have to pay only if the box contained a winning prize.

When the box was opened, an LCD screen appeared inside. The suspects then claimed that the couple had also won Rs200,000 in cash but would have to pay Rs25,000 as a company guarantee to claim the prize.

The complainant said he told them he had only Rs5,000, which the suspects took. They also demanded his mobile phone as security. The suspects subsequently took his wife's gold ring as well, promising to return with the LCD and the Rs200,000 prize.
