ISLAMABAD:

DPM and FM Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to safeguarding its sovereign rights, and directed the ministries and departments concerned to work in close coordination to advance national interests.

The deputy prime minister chaired a high-level meeting to review matters related to Pakistan's water security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs news release said. The meeting examined legal, diplomatic and technical dimensions of the country's water security.

Dar directed the authorities concerned to maintain strategic sugar reserves to meet national demand, ensuring that the export of surplus stock does not exert upward pressure on retail prices.

He was chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the Export of Surplus Sugar.

The deputy prime minister emphasised that while exporting surplus commodities was essential for strengthening the agricultural economy and earning valuable foreign exchange.

The meeting reviewed ongoing measures to streamline the export of surplus sugar and finalise the administrative, technical and procedural frameworks. Current stock levels and domestic consumption requirements were thoroughly assessed to ensure that exports would not affect domestic price stability.
