Ariana Grande fans criticised Ricky Alvarez after video showed their interaction at New York City Marathon

Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez have faced online scrutiny after appearing together at the New York City Marathon, where some fans criticised the photographer for not helping the singer during a brief interaction.
The couple attended the event in Manhattan, where a digital content creator behind the project Ella's Envelope approached them and asked whether they would leave an encouraging message for runners.
Grande agreed and wrote "You did it!" alongside several small heart doodles on a clipboard. She also signed the message "Ari + Ricky", before it was passed to a runner who was reportedly surprised to discover who had written it.
However, footage of the encounter shared on Instagram prompted criticism from some viewers, who focused on Alvarez's behaviour while Grande wrote the message.
In the video, the singer appeared to manage her drink while using the clipboard, leading some fans to question why Alvarez did not offer to hold it for her.
"Eww, he gave me the ick in this whole interaction. I hope I'm wrong," one user commented.
Another wrote sarcastically, "And way to go, Ricky, for not grabbing the drink and holding it for Ariana Grande while she was writing."
Other viewers also questioned Alvarez's facial expressions and perceived lack of involvement. The reactions reflect some fans' interpretations of the brief interaction rather than any confirmed issue between the couple.
