Steven Tyler is facing renewed scrutiny after controversial comments he made about his daughter, actress Liv Tyler, resurfaced online amid an ongoing civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse.

The remarks appeared in music writer Gavin Edwards’ 2006 book Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton’s Little John?, in which Tyler discussed whether he had ever experienced inappropriate attraction towards Liv. The Aerosmith frontman made a disturbing generalisation about fathers and daughters, “A father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter...” while also stating that acting on such feelings was something a man should never do.

The comments have circulated again as Tyler, 78, continues to defend himself against allegations brought by Julia Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb. Misley alleges that Tyler sexually abused her after they met in 1973, when she was 16 and he was 25. Tyler has denied wrongdoing and has disputed her claims.

In April 2026, a California judge rejected Tyler’s attempt to dismiss the entire lawsuit but allowed certain allegations connected to California to proceed. The decision was procedural and did not establish the allegations as fact. The case remains unresolved.

Meanwhile, Tyler has returned to performing with Aerosmith. The band appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 29, marking its first full live performance since 2023. Liv Tyler and actress Alicia Silverstone introduced the musicians before the show.

The concert followed Aerosmith’s retirement from touring after Tyler sustained a vocal injury. The performance featured several of the group’s best-known songs, including “Dream On”, “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way”.

Liv Tyler, whose mother is singer and model Bebe Buell, has not been accused of being involved in the allegations against her father. The resurfaced comments concern Tyler’s past statements, while Misley’s lawsuit addresses alleged conduct involving her during her teenage years.
