Bethesda has revealed The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, but release could still be years away

Bethesda has officially revealed the title of its long-awaited next instalment in The Elder Scrolls franchise, but fans may still have more than two years to wait before its release.

The game was confirmed as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel in a video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios. However, the announcement offered little beyond the new logo, with no gameplay footage, release window or platform details.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier addressed the reveal on Bluesky, pointing out that the game was originally announced alongside Starfield in 2018.

He explained that Bethesda had initially revealed the project partly to reassure fans following the announcement of Fallout 76.

“Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!” Schreier wrote.

The latest announcement comes nearly eight years after the original teaser, which showed a mountainous landscape and confirmed that the project was in pre-production.

Since then, Bethesda has released Fallout 76, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, while providing limited updates on its next mainline fantasy RPG.

Schreier previously estimated in a July Bloomberg Q&A that the game was at least two to three years away. His latest comments suggest that a 2028 release may be the earliest possibility, although Bethesda has not announced a launch date.

The studio has confirmed that Sentinel is its primary development focus, with most of its team working on the project. The game is being developed using Creation Engine 3, and internal builds are reportedly playable.
