American supermodel Gigi Hadid gave Bollywood fans an unexpected reason to celebrate after revealing her love for the 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G).

The revelation came after British fashion model Neelam Kaur Gill paid tribute to one of Bollywood's most recognisable style icons by dressing up as Kareena Kapoor Khan's character, Pooja Sharma, popularly known as Poo, for Halloween.

Gill recreated Poo's instantly recognisable fashion aesthetic, sporting a pink crop top, mini skirt and signature accessories that brought back memories of the character's iconic looks.

Sharing the outfit on Instagram, Gill captioned her post, "Tell me how it was” living my 2000’s Bollywood fantasy courtesy of the QUEEN Kareena Kapoor in K3G".

However, it was Hadid's response that particularly caught the attention of fans. The supermodel joined the conversation by commenting, “I love this movie,” revealing her appreciation for the popular Hindi film.

Gill was equally delighted by the unexpected endorsement from the international fashion star. Responding to Hadid, the model wrote, “@gigihadid truly the best ever <3”.

The exchange prompted several amused reactions from fans, with one Instagram user admitting that Hadid's appreciation for the film was something they had never anticipated.

Hadid's appreciation for Bollywood also brings an interesting connection to South Asian culture into the conversation. The supermodel was previously in a relationship with British singer Zayn Malik, with whom she shares a daughter, Khai.

Malik has Pakistani roots through his father, Yaser Malik, who is British-Pakistani, while his mother, Trisha Malik, has English and Irish heritage.

Hadid and Malik have previously spoken about raising their daughter with an understanding of her multicultural background. In a 2021 interview with Elle, Hadid discussed the importance of helping Khai appreciate the different cultural identities she inherits from both sides of her family.

Although Hadid has not linked her love for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to her personal connections with South Asia, her comment has delighted Bollywood fans, who are enjoying the unexpected crossover between international fashion and Hindi cinema.
