Merub Ali praises Dananeer, Romaisa Khan for proving their talent beyond social media
Says digital platforms helped actors find opportunities in television that traditional routes might not have offered

Merub Ali has praised the growing presence of social media influencers in the entertainment industry, pointing to fellow actors Dananeer Mobeen and Romaisa Khan as examples of digital creators who have successfully made the transition to television.
In a recent interview, Ali spoke about how social media had helped introduce fresh talent to the entertainment industry, arguing that performers should be judged on their abilities rather than how they first gained public attention.
Speaking about Mobeen, Ali described her as a prime example of how social media could help talented newcomers find opportunities in showbiz.
“I just believe in talent. The perfect example of this is Dananeer and I am so happy that social media brought her here. Dananeer is so talented and if we did not have social media, it would be really difficult to navigate and find people like her,” she said.
Ali also praised Khan, who built a substantial online following through her social media content before establishing herself as a television actor.
“Romaisa is also a beautiful actress. I have seen her play various roles and her expressions and acting through her eyes. I don’t know how she does it. She is great and social media gave us that,” Ali said.
Her appreciation extended beyond their career transitions to the criticism they faced along the way. Recalling the reaction to Mobeen's casting in the popular drama Sinf-e-Aahan, Ali said some viewers had questioned whether an influencer could hold her own alongside established actors.
“During Sinf-e-Aahan, I remember people used to say that she is an influencer and you guys have let her get this far. She proved herself in that drama,” she recalled.
Mobeen first rose to widespread attention in 2021 after her short video featuring the now-famous 'Pawri Ho Rahi Hai' line went viral. The clip became a social media phenomenon, spawning countless recreations and memes.
She subsequently made her television debut in Sinf-e-Aahan, playing Sidra alongside established actors including Sajal Aly, Yumna Zaidi, Kubra Khan, Syra Yousuf and Ramsha Khan. Despite initial questions surrounding her casting, Mobeen went on to establish herself as an emerging television performer.
Khan followed a similar path, using her online popularity and comedic personality as a springboard into mainstream entertainment.
She gradually moved into television, taking on different roles and demonstrating her acting abilities in projects such as Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi and Dekh Zara Pyar Se. She is currently known for playing Hamna in Dar-e-Nijaat.
Interestingly, Ali's own career also connects her to the discussion. Before becoming a familiar face on television, she worked as a model and built a presence on social media. She made her television debut in the 2021 drama Sinf-e-Aahan, which introduced her to a wider audience, before appearing in projects including Paristan and Wabaal.
Ali is currently appearing in the drama Izzat as Rutba, alongside Atabik Mohsin and Hashaam Khan.
Having experienced her own transition into television, Ali's appreciation of Mobeen and Khan carries an added perspective. Her comments underline how digital platforms can help emerging performers find opportunities in an industry that has traditionally relied on established routes to discover talent.
For Ali, an influencer background should not determine whether someone deserves a place in showbiz. What ultimately matters is the ability to prove one's talent on screen.
