Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Monday announced plans to restore and modernise the Pakistan Television (PTV) Drama and Film Academy, aiming to equip young people with contemporary filmmaking and digital production skills.

In a statement shared on X, Tarar said he had chaired a meeting to discuss the restoration of the academy "and giving it a new shape."

The minister said that, for the first time in Pakistan, specialised training in colour grading would be made available locally, eliminating the need for aspiring professionals to travel abroad to acquire the skill.

Tarar added, "In collaboration with the private sector, we will provide practical training to the youth in modern studios for films, dramas, and digital content; we will also partner with universities, and PTV's revenue will increase."

The minister concluded with expressing hope that the project would "prove to be a game-changer."

The proposed revival of the PTV Drama and Film Academy came at a time when the film, television and digital content industries increasingly rely on advanced production techniques including colour grading, post-production and modern studio technologies.

By bringing specialised training facilities to Pakistan and involving private-sector partners and universities, the initiative aims to help bridge the skills gap and prepare a new generation of professionals for opportunities in the evolving media landscape.
