KARACHI:

A routine trip to buy bread turned fatal for a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineer, who was shot dead by an unidentified motorcycle-riding assailant in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Sunday.

The 54-year-old victim, identified as Imtiaz Ahmed, was crossing a road when the armed attacker opened fire before speeding away. Police said the killing did not appear to be a robbery-related incident, as the victim's belongings were found intact.

According to police, Imtiaz was father of four children. His wife and daughters are currently residing in Germany. The victim sustained a bullet wound near his ribs, close to the arm, which proved fatal. Three bullets also struck a vehicle parked nearby.

Police obtained CCTV footage showing Imtiaz briskly crossing the road before collapsing near a vehicle. People in the vicinity can be seen fleeing for safety as gunshots ring out. Seconds later, a motorcyclist is seen speeding away from the scene.
