LAHORE:

A love affair has allegedly turned into a case of Rs380 million worth of theft lodged by a businessman accusing his son and four members of his girlfriend's family of stealing 70 tola of gold from his home in Kot Lakhpat.

According to the FIR registered at Kot Lakhpat police station, the complainant, Ali Rehman, alleged that his son, Oman, had been secretly removing gold jewellery from their house and handing it over to his girlfriend's family, who allegedly sold it to goldsmiths in Lahore and Kasur.

The complainant said his wife had kept approximately 70 tolas of gold jewellery in a handbag in a cupboard at their home. The theft came to light when the couple checked the bag and found the jewellery missing.

Rehman said he became suspicious of his son and questioned him about the missing valuables.

The suspect said he had been in a relationship with the woman and wanted to marry her.

According to the FIR, he told his father that the woman's family had asked him to steal valuables from his home and hand them over for sale.

The family allegedly told him that, being a young man, he would not be able to sell the jewellery himself.

The complainant alleged that the suspect subsequently removed the jewellery in parts and handed it over to the family members who sold it through their contacts in Lahore and Kasur.
