QUETTA:

The Balochistan government has dismissed 72 medical officers in Grades 17 and 18 for prolonged unauthorised absence from duty under the Balochistan Employees Efficiency and Discipline Act (BEEDA) 2011.

Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar said the action was taken as part of efforts to improve the functioning of the provincial health department on the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

He said the government would not tolerate absenteeism or negligence on the part of medical staff, adding that reforms were being introduced in the health sector under the chief minister's leadership.

The minister said the government had pledged from the outset to provide healthcare facilities to people at their doorsteps and would not tolerate any lapse in public service delivery.

He warned that action would continue against officials demonstrating negligence or an unserious attitude towards their responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan Prisons Department has dismissed 30 employees, including 20 wardens, over prolonged absence from duty and negligence in the performance of their responsibilities.
