Kim Kardashian has revealed how she protects her four children from potentially upsetting news stories about herself and her ex-husband, Kanye West, by using a household code word to limit their exposure to current affairs.

In Jonathan Van Meter’s new book, Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, the SKIMS founder explained that her family uses the word “lockdown” to activate a plan that switches off television and radio broadcasts.

“My whole household knows what a ‘lockdown’ means if I text it. Like, ‘We’re on lockdown.’ No TVs, just movies. No radio, just plug in a phone for music in the car. Not even, like, Sirius XM, because they talk about current events in real time. It’s like, They don’t have to be a party to this.”

Kardashian shares four children with West: North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.

She said the measures are intended to prevent the children from becoming involved in negative public discussions about their parents.

Kardashian also discussed her co-parenting relationship with the rapper, acknowledging that she continues to worry about him despite difficulties in their relationship.

“Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day,” Kardashian said. “All the time. That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him.”

She added that she tries to put past difficulties aside while maintaining boundaries, saying they manage to co-parent “without too much conflict”.

Kardashian described their relationship as relatively smooth recently, noting that they have limited contact but remain cordial when they meet.

She also encourages her children to maintain close relationships with their father's family.
