LAHORE:

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has stated that the flamingo population at Uchali lake has increased from 10 to more than 60 this season, with the birds also expanding into Muzaffargarh.

The CM shared photographs of flamingos at the lake and herds of Punjab urial in the Salt Range.

She said the increase in flamingos and the presence of urial in their natural habitats reflect efforts to protect wildlife, introduce legal reforms and restore natural environments.

Salt Range Deputy Chief Wildlife Ranger Syed Ali Usman protective measures and enforcement of laws were helping stabilise the urial population in the region.

According to a report by Chakwal Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Mirza Abid Hussain, enforcement of the Wildlife Act and Protected Areas Act are contributing to the protection of the rare species. The department said the presence of resident and migratory flamingos at the lake was significant for biodiversity.
