RAWALPINDI:

Large-scale illegal commercial and residential construction has been found in areas administered by the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (RMC).

Building plans for structures erected without approval, contrary to approved plans or in serious violation of building bylaws have been sought within 15 days.

Soon after assuming charge as administrator of the municipal corporation, the deputy commissioner began scrutiny of all its departments.

On the orders of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and RMC Administrator Capt (retired) Nadeem Nasir, the municipal corporation has issued a formal public notice to owners of illegal commercial and residential buildings.

Under Sections 26, 14 and 19 of the Punjab Local Government Act 2025, owners of illegal structures have been warned to approach the municipal corporation office within 15 days to seek approval of their building plans.

Failure to comply will invite legal action under Section 165 of the MCR Building Bylaws 2000. The action may include sealing or demolishing buildings, imposing heavy fines, confiscating properties and registering FIRs.
