Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said Pakistan was ready to partner with international consulting firms to strengthen economic growth, stressing the need for "impact and accountability" as the government pursued structural reforms and privatisation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

“Pakistan is ready to have a productive and meaningful partnership with international consulting firms to strengthen economic growth, while ensuring impact and accountability at their end,” PM Shehbaz said during a meeting with Peter Briggs, managing director of the North American operations of international consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), in Islamabad.

The prime minister welcomed Briggs and reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to open its economy to promising international markets and consult globally recognised economic experts, according to the PMO.

PM Shehbaz said that after successfully achieving the goal of economic and fiscal stability, the government was taking effective measures to introduce deep-rooted structural and economic reforms. These measures aimed to “usher into an era of export-led growth and productive economy,” he said.

He highlighted the government’s focus on improving the performance and efficiency of the domestic manufacturing sector, while also taking measures to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

The premier also told the delegation that the government was following a “vibrant strategy” to assess the economic viability of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and subsequently pursue privatisation to support the national economy and economic growth.

“The government is cognisant of the vital importance to have a team of experts and professionally qualified workforce to improve the economic growth engine,” he said.

Briggs thanked PM Shehbaz for the meeting and extended his gratitude regarding the government’s commitment to attracting FDI and engaging constructively with international economic experts.

He also expressed A&M’s eagerness to establish positive coordination and cooperation with Pakistan to promote a progressive business environment and a productive economy.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials attended the meeting.
