Cop booked over alleged bribery

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Anti-Corruption Establishment has registered a case against a sub-inspector of Waris Khan Police Station for corruption, receiving bribes and misuse of authority.

The officer allegedly registered a case against 19-year-old Samiullah, who collected waste, accusing him of selling 2,800 grammes of hashish despite having received Rs0.25 million in bribe money from him. Raids have been launched to arrest the sub-inspector, while the police officer has obtained interim bail.

The father of the young man submitted videos showing the sub-inspector receiving Rs0.25 million, arresting his son from their house and repeatedly summoning him to the police station, along with call records, to the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

Tahir Khan, father of the arrested Samiullah, presented videos recorded through CCTV cameras and a mobile phone. He said the officer had demanded more money, and when they refused, he implicated his son in a narcotics case.

The Anti-Corruption police station has registered a case, while Advocate Malik Amjad Awan has filed a bail application for the youth before a division bench of the Rawalpindi High Court. The division bench has sought the complete record of the case.
