Amanda Seyfried has confirmed her involvement in the upcoming Jennifer’s Body sequel, revealing that the follow-up to the 2009 comedy horror film is on her schedule for next year.

In an interview with WWD published on Wednesday, the Mean Girls actress said she was looking forward to reuniting with the original film’s creative team.

Her confirmation follows recent comments from screenwriter Diablo Cody, who said the sequel was moving towards production.

“The Jennifer's Body sequel is definitely on my calendar for next year because I love that team,” Seyfried said. “It was such a special experience, and I think we have a good shot at making something just as special.”

The original film starred Megan Fox as Jennifer, a high school student possessed by a demon who begins killing her classmates, while Seyfried played her best friend, Needy.

Although the film was a commercial failure on its initial release, it has since developed a cult following.

Earlier this month, Cody revealed during an appearance on the Petticoat Revolution podcast that the sequel was happening imminently. She also discussed the opportunity to explore Jennifer’s character in greater depth.

“One fun thing - I can't talk about it too much - but you know we're doing a sequel to this movie, like imminently, and I felt like in the new movie, I was able to explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she's been through,” Cody said.

She added, “And there is absolutely, to me, a loneliness and a poignancy to that character that people don't always recognise.”

Filming is reportedly set to take place in Vancouver, Canada, with Seyfried and Fox expected to star.

Original director Karyn Kusama was also named alongside Cody. However, those details were never officially confirmed, as Seyfried’s latest comments suggest production is now planned for next year.
