Keira Knightley and Luke Thompson are joining forces for The Lives of Others, a new theatre production set in 1984 East Germany that explores surveillance, espionage and the lives of people living under an oppressive regime.

The actors discussed the upcoming spy thriller during an appearance on ITV's This Morning on October 20. The production centres on a Stasi officer who secretly monitors a writer and an actor from an attic above their apartment.

The Stasi was East Germany's secret police, known for its extensive surveillance of citizens. The play's setting provides the backdrop for a tense story involving observation, privacy and the consequences of state control.

Knightley, known for her work in films including Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, brings her experience in film and theatre to the production. Thompson, who gained widespread recognition for playing Benedict Bridgerton in Netflix's Bridgerton, joins her in the stage thriller.

During the interview, Knightley also spoke about the return of her Netflix spy thriller series Black Doves. The series follows Helen Webb, a spy whose work becomes complicated when her secret life intersects with personal relationships and political intrigue.

Her involvement in both projects continues her association with espionage-themed stories, with The Lives of Others exploring surveillance in a historical setting and Black Doves focusing on contemporary intelligence operations.

The new stage production brings together two actors recognised for their work across different genres and platforms. While the play is rooted in the political atmosphere of 1980s East Germany, its themes of surveillance and personal freedom remain relevant to modern audiences.

Further details about the production, including its full performance schedule and additional casting information, were not included in the ITV This Morning report.
