PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced a zero-tolerance policy against illegal encroachments across the province, warning that action will be taken without discrimination, regardless of the influence or political affiliation of those involved.

"Even if someone is my relative or a representative of a political party, no recommendation will be accepted," the governor said while speaking to the media during an inspection of the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Peshawar on Sunday.

During his visit to Kohat Road, Kundi received a briefing from officials of the Peshawar district administration and the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) on measures being taken to remove illegal encroachments.

He appreciated the efforts of the district administration and relevant departments, saying effective measures would be taken to rid the province of illegal occupation of public spaces.

The governor made it clear that the campaign would not be limited to Peshawar but would be extended across the province. He warned that officials concerned would be held responsible if encroachments reappeared after being removed.

Appealing to those responsible to remove illegal structures voluntarily, he said the authorities would take action against those who failed to comply. No concessions would be granted to influential individuals, he added.

"The days when people established encroachments through political connections and recommendations are over," Kundi said, criticising the previous provincial government for allegedly turning a blind eye to the problem.
