ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has emphasised that the future of Pakistan depends on sustainable development, technological innovation and responsible investment. "Initiatives such as EV charging facilities demonstrate how the private sector can contribute to national efforts to promote clean energy, reduce environmental pollution and build a greener Pakistan," he said.

He welcomed the cooperation agreement between StarCharge, a leading global provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and smart energy solutions, and McDonald's Pakistan, aimed at expanding access to EV charging facilities and promoting environmentally sustainable transportation across Pakistan.

Speaking at a ceremony, the federal minister appreciated the initiative, describing it as an encouraging step towards developing modern, environmentally friendly infrastructure and accelerating Pakistan's transition towards cleaner energy solutions.

Under the agreement, StarCharge and McDonald's Pakistan will explore opportunities to establish EV charging facilities at suitable McDonald's locations across the country. The proposed collaboration will combine StarCharge's expertise in EV charging technology with McDonald's extensive customer network. The two organisations will jointly assess potential locations based on technical feasibility, infrastructure requirements and commercial viability.

The food security minister stressed that the expansion of electric mobility infrastructure would help reduce dependence on conventional fuels, encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation and support Pakistan's broader objectives of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

He highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in introducing modern technologies and attracting investment into emerging sectors of the economy. "Pakistan needs innovative partnerships that translate technological advancement into practical benefits for citizens. The expansion of EV charging infrastructure will not only facilitate electric vehicle users but also encourage greater private-sector participation in sustainable development," he remarked.

The minister said that environmental sustainability and economic development must advance together, adding that initiatives promoting cleaner transportation could contribute to improved air quality, reduced carbon emissions and a more resilient national economy.

He appreciated the commitment of StarCharge and McDonald's Pakistan to exploring investment in green infrastructure and expressed hope that their cooperation would encourage other businesses to adopt similar environmentally responsible initiatives. The agreement reflects the growing role of private-sector partnerships in supporting the government's efforts to encourage electric mobility, strengthen charging infrastructure and promote a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
