Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has revealed that she underwent gender-affirming bottom surgery in December 2025, sharing details of the experience in a candid interview with Elle.

The 27-year-old actress, known for playing Jules Vaughn in HBO’s hit drama series, discussed her understanding of queerness, identity and personal growth during the interview, published in connection with her upcoming projects.

“I just had bottom surgery in December, which was amazing, and I love it so much,” Schafer said, explaining why she felt comfortable sharing the experience publicly.

The actress also reflected on the relationship between her personal identity and the broader ideas associated with queerness. She described queerness as an idea centred on possibility, expansion and growth, while acknowledging the challenges of navigating those concepts in everyday life.

“I’m a woman. I’m a girl,” Schafer said, emphasising her identity during the conversation.

She added that there could be tension between exploring queerness as an ideology and understanding how it applies in the context of the world people live in.

Schafer’s comments offer a personal perspective on gender-affirming care, which encompasses medical procedures intended to align a person’s physical characteristics with their gender identity. The specific procedures involved can vary depending on an individual's needs and choices.

The actress has previously spoken about her experiences as a transgender woman and the expectations placed on transgender performers in the entertainment industry. In 2024, she discussed why she had turned down certain transgender roles and reflected on the pressure to serve as a spokesperson for the transgender community.

Through her latest interview, Schafer has continued to share her perspective on identity and representation while discussing her own experiences on her terms.

Her work on Euphoria has brought her international recognition, making her one of the prominent performers associated with the series.
