Actor Mehwish Hayat has explained why she maintains a relatively low-key presence on social media, revealing that she prefers to post occasionally rather than share frequent updates with her followers.
During an interview, the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani star said she does not post on social media frequently. “I post every two to three weeks because I feel like people get bored. They should always be wanting more,” Mehwish said.
She added that her approach also stemmed from her personal preference for privacy. While social media allows celebrities to stay connected with their fans, she does not believe in sharing every aspect of her life online.
“It also comes from the fact that I don’t like to overshare,” she said, highlighting her desire to maintain a distinction between her public persona and private life.
Her comments reflect a deliberate approach to managing her online presence. Rather than posting simply to remain visible, the actress prefers to share content selectively, allowing her followers to anticipate her next update.
Beyond maintaining audience interest, Mehwish also emphasised the importance of personal time and preserving space for herself away from work and social media.
She noted that her professional commitments and the time she dedicates to her fans already occupy a substantial part of her life. “Also, I really love my own time because I give so much time to my work and my fans. If I give the rest of my time to social media, what’s left for me?” she said.
Her remarks underline the importance she places on balancing professional responsibilities, engagement with fans and personal time. For Mehwish, being connected with her audience does not mean documenting every moment or remaining constantly active online.
While celebrities increasingly use social media to share professional updates and glimpses into their personal lives, Mehwish’s comments highlight a more selective approach. She appears keen to maintain a connection with her followers without allowing online engagement to dominate her daily routine.
Her perspective also echoes concerns raised by other Pakistani celebrities about privacy and safety on social media.
Actor Kinza Hashmi recently urged women to be cautious about whom they trust, discussing the importance of trusting one’s instincts and avoiding sharing every detail of one’s life in real time. She noted that fans did not need to know where someone was eating or spending time at every moment, particularly given safety concerns in Pakistan.
Mehwish is one of Pakistan’s best-known film and television actresses, recognised for her performances in productions including Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Load Wedding, London Nahi Jaunga and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani.
