Municipal workers threaten boycott
Despite a change in government, the issue of delayed salaries and pensions of local government employees in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remains unresolved, prompting the Local Government Grand Alliance to threaten a complete boycott of sanitation and municipal services across the province.
Employees of Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) have not received their October salaries and pensions because the Finance Department has yet to release the funds required by the local bodies.
The employees said October was nearing its end, but thousands of serving and retired municipal workers were still waiting for their payments. They added that TMA octroi shares and other outstanding funds had been delayed by the Finance Department, leaving employees without their monthly income.
The imposition of governor's rule and emergency in the province has also failed to improve the situation, with municipal employees continuing to face financial hardship because of repeated delays in the release of funds.
They said thousands of municipal employees, sanitation workers and retired personnel across the province had been deprived of their monthly salaries and pensions for several months.
