RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan's wheat cultivation is facing mounting challenges at the start of the Rabi season as production costs reach Rs3,761 per maund and water shortages threaten irrigation supplies.

Concerns over the condition of government wheat stocks and the lack of a settled indicative price have added uncertainty around the crop, raising questions about the country's food security.

Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich, central information secretary of the PTI Kisan Wing, warned that the government must act immediately to address these problems or risk worsening the agricultural crisis. Sadhraich said Punjab and Sindh were facing a projected 22 per cent water shortage during the current Rabi season.
