Britney Spears has reflected on her iconic image and authenticity in a lengthy Instagram post, appearing to address pop singers who have adopted styles similar to hers.

The 44-year-old singer did not name any artists in her remarks.

“A lot of girls last year have definitely done the complete image I used to have when I was younger… and yo that’s cool, but at least mine was real…,” she wrote.

Spears also expressed frustration with what she sees as a lack of authenticity in modern culture. “I was that nerd in school that was real as hell… the world has become fake… people who are actually real get hated on… which is a shame…”

She continued in a sarcastic tone, suggesting she might change her approach to fit in. “ok. Maybe I should try harder and get fake nails and do the fake thing. all my guys friends say just be fake.. I need a bad ass girlfriend who can teach me how to lie. I’m actually too kind in real life and that’s the problem..”

Addressing critics who believe her influence has faded, Spears added: “To all the girls who say I’m History… I’M PROPHECY.”

The singer also recalled her early career, writing, “I’m the original apple B school girl who did backflips and backhand springs and fell in love with people on every set I ever went to… these years were precious, so young and naive…”

“The world has been hateful to me, and I’m still standing, living, and dreaming,” she added.

Spears rose to fame in 1998 with …Baby One More Time. Its schoolgirl-uniform music video became one of the defining pop images of the late 1990s.

She has continued to use Instagram to reflect on her experiences since her conservatorship ended in November 2021. She later discussed that period in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.
