QUETTA:

An attempted assault by armed militants on a police checkpoint near Dosa Cross in Sibi was thwarted on Saturday when security forces responded swiftly, killing one terrorist and injuring two others in an exchange of fire.

According to security sources, a group of armed individuals launched an attack on the police post located along National Highway N-65 near Dosa Cross in Sibi district. Acting on immediate information, the Frontier Corps Quick Response Force rushed to the scene and engaged the attackers. In the ensuing gun battle, one terrorist was killed while two others sustained injuries. Security personnel recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the site. A search and clearance operation remains underway in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining threat.

In a separate development, Sardar Shah Zaman Khan Alizai, a prominent tribal figure from Mastung, and his son have been safely recovered nearly a month after their abduction. Local administration officials confirmed that the pair returned home on Friday.

The two were kidnapped on August 19 by armed men near Sorgaz while travelling from Quetta to Mastung. Efforts for their recovery had continued over the intervening period. Their safe return has brought relief to the family and the local community.

Security officials have not released further details regarding the identity of the slain militant or the condition of the injured attackers. Investigations into both incidents are continuing, with forces maintaining heightened vigilance along the highway and in the wider region.
