KARACHI:

The Sahil police have solved the mystery of an alleged robbery involving gold worth Rs15 million in Defence Phase VIII within 24 hours, arresting two suspects, including a driver, police said.

According to the police spokesperson, Sahil police received information on Friday night that car-borne suspects had snatched gold worth Rs15 million and a mobile phone from a citizen before fleeing.

The police launched an immediate investigation. Using CCTV footage and technical evidence, they solved the case in less than 24 hours, arrested a suspect and recovered the vehicle and belongings involved in the incident.

During the investigation, police discovered that the incident was allegedly not a robbery but stemmed from a family dispute.

Preliminary findings suggested that a woman named Ayesha had allegedly staged the robbery through her driver, Haider, who reportedly hired two men to carry out the plan. Investigators also found that the gold valued at Rs15 million, which was claimed to have been stolen, allegedly did not exist.

Sahil SHO Farooq Sanjrani said the complainant had entrusted the gold to Ayesha for safekeeping, and the alleged robbery drama was staged when the gold was to be returned.

The complainant later informed police that the matter concerned her family and that she did not wish to pursue further legal action at present. However, police said legal proceedings against the arrested suspects were continuing in accordance with the law, and further investigation was under way.
