ISLAMABAD:

The Maldives team have arrived in Islamabad ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group III, which will be held from October 21 to 24 at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex.

Pakistan will host the international women’s team tennis competition for the first time, with eight nations set to compete in the tournament.

Bahrain, Bhutan, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Maldives, Pakistan and Qatar are participating in the event.

PTF president Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and secretary general Colonel Zia-ud-Din Tufail, along with federation officials, welcomed the Maldivian delegation upon arrival.

The PTF leadership said hosting the tournament reflected Pakistan’s commitment to developing tennis, particularly women’s tennis, while strengthening international sporting ties.

The competition will also give Pakistani players an opportunity to face international opponents on home soil.

The federation said it was making arrangements to welcome the participating teams and officials and ensure the smooth running of the tournament.

The event marks a milestone for Pakistan tennis as the country prepares to stage the regional competition for the first time.
