RAWALPINDI:
The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) in Rawalpindi has successfully performed two more liver transplants, bringing the total number of successful liver transplants at the institute to four, alongside one kidney transplant.
The latest procedures were carried out on Oct 12 and 13.
In the first case, a father from Bannu donated his liver to his daughter, while in the second, a man from Rawalpindi donated his liver to his wife.
Medical experts say the liver of a donor can regenerate and return to its normal state in approximately three months.
Both procedures were performed under the supervision of Professor Dr Faisal Saud Dar, Dr Ehsanul Haq and Dr Bilal Ahmed.
Before these procedures, two liver transplants and one kidney transplant had also been successfully performed at PKLI Rawalpindi.
PKLI Project Director Dr Zulfiqar Ali Khan said donors for kidney and liver transplants were accepted only on the basis of blood relations.
