RAWALPINDI:

A proclaimed offender wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, robbery, attempted murder and the sexual abuse of children, was killed in an alleged exchange of fire with a Crime Control Department (CCD) team in the Jatli police precinct late at night, while his accomplices "managed" to escape.

According to sources, the incident happened on Devi Data Main Road, where the CCD team was conducting routine snap-checking when motorcycle-borne suspects allegedly opened fire on the personnel.

The CCD team returned fire, killing one suspect identified as Hamad alias Maadu. He reportedly belonged to Khadiyot, an area of Kahuta.

Sources said the deceased was a PO wanted by law enforcement agencies in several serious cases, including murder during a robbery, attempted murder and the alleged sexual abuse of underage children at gunpoint.

The suspect was reportedly regarded as a source of fear in the area and allegedly posted videos of celebratory gunfire on social media to intimidate local residents. A pistol was reportedly recovered from the deceased following the exchange of fire, while his accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness.

The CCD team has launched a search operation in the area to arrest the fleeing suspects, with searches under way at various locations.

The body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy and other legal formalities.
