KARACHI:

KARACHI. A constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the director general of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) to implement the quota for persons with disabilities within three weeks in a case concerning the authority's failure to provide jobs to two visually impaired siblings.

The order was passed during the hearing of a contempt of court petition against the Sindh chief secretary and the KDA director general. The two-member bench, headed by Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon, heard the matter, with the KDA director general appearing before the court.

The director general told the bench that the KDA had no system in place for recruitment under the disability quota.

The petitioners' counsel, Advocate Usman Farooq, submitted that the court had previously ordered the regularisation of the two siblings under the disability quota. He said the petitioners, Saima and Mujtaba, had been appointed to contractual positions at the KDA and worked there for two to three years.

They were entitled to regularisation under the disability quota, but the authority terminated their contracts.
