RAWALPINDI:

The prime suspect in the alleged sexual assault and strangulation murder of 12-year-old schoolgirl Maimoona was killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD). Mumraiz Abbasi's two accomplices, however, managed to escape.

The incident occurred near the Children's Park at Alamabad Stop, within the jurisdiction of Ratta Amral Police Station, during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Sources in CCD said three suspects suddenly opened fire on a CCD team near the park. The personnel returned fire, during which Abbasi was killed, while his two accomplices fled the scene. A 30-bore pistol and ammunition were also recovered from the deceased suspect.

Abbasi, who reportedly hailed from Abbottabad, was the victim's maternal uncle and had been absconding since the incident.

According to sources, Maimoona, a resident of Dhoke Najju, had left home for a madrassa a few days earlier but never returned.
