KARACHI:

Singer Huma Khawaja has released her new Punjabi song, Tere Rang, a soulful love song that celebrates the colours of life, relationships and festivities. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khawaja said the song was created in January and released in October, drawing inspiration from changing seasons and the idea of colours returning to life.

"As we say, autumn comes after spring. So we need colours. When colours change, that is how it got the name Tere Rang," she said.

The singer described the track as a simple, accessible and soulful love song that she hopes will connect with listeners from different walks of life. Its colourful theme, she said, makes it suitable for celebrations ranging from weddings and birthdays to Valentine's Day.

With the wedding season approaching in November and December, Khawaja said the song's upbeat rhythm and festive mood were designed to complement occasions centred on happiness, love and togetherness.

"It is a cute song, a soulful song. It is about spreading love. It is an easy song that everyone can understand," she said.

The track features production by Ali Mustafa, who works from his studio in Lahore. Vocal production was handled by Samia Gauhar, a top-six contestant on Pakistan Idol. Roshaan Ashraf, associated with the Mehboob Ashraf Band, contributed to the percussion and mixing, according to the singer.

Alongside the music, Khawaja has used artificial intelligence to create a video that reflects the song's central themes. She said the visuals bring together colours, love and elements of Pakistan's cultural heritage, including traditional kites.

For Khawaja, the title Tere Rang carries a broader meaning beyond its romantic theme. Colours can represent the excitement of celebrations, the diversity of life and the emotions that connect people.
