QUETTA:

The Balochistan Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution seeking the extension of the Jinnah Train Service from Kuchlak to Yaro Railway Station and the construction of a new 12-kilometre railway track from Yaro to Pishin to provide affordable and reliable transport facilities to residents of Pishin division.

The session, chaired by Speaker Captain (retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began an hour behind schedule.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) MPA Syed Zafar Agha moved the resolution, stating that the launch of the Jinnah People's Train Service between Quetta and Kuchlak had provided citizens with an affordable and safe travel option.

He said Pishin division was densely populated, with large numbers of students, government and private-sector employees, patients and other residents travelling to Quetta daily for education, employment, medical treatment and business.

However, the lack of convenient and timely transport facilities had created difficulties for commuters, he added.

The resolution urged the provincial government to approach the Ministry of Railways to extend the existing train service from Kuchlak to Yaro Railway Station and take practical steps to lay a 12-kilometre track from Yaro to Pishin. The proposal was approved unanimously.

During the session, Jamaat-i-Islami MPA Hidayatur Rehman Baloch submitted a call-attention notice regarding financial assistance and subsidies for livestock farmers. The notice was disposed of following an assurance from the parliamentary secretary concerned.
