Baby boy killed, 15 hurt as bus falls into canal

A two-month-old boy was killed and 15 passengers were seriously injured when a speeding passenger coaster overturned into a canal on Buchiana-Jaranwala Road on Friday.

Rescue workers recovered the infant's body about one kilometre from the accident site and handed it over to his family.

The bus was travelling from Sialkot to Jaranwala via Buchiana when it went out of control due to speeding near the Baidi Mor stop, about two kilometres from Buchiana towards Jaranwala, and overturned into a canal running alongside the road.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and provided first aid to the injured passengers before shifting them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Jaranwala and the District Headquarters Hospital in Nankana Sahib for treatment.

During the accident, a two-month-old boy, identified as Dawood, was swept away by the fast-flowing canal water and went missing.

Rescue 1122 divers launched a search operation and recovered the infant's body after an hour of efforts, about one kilometre from the site.

Police from Buchiana police station reached the scene, took the coaster into custody and launched a search for the driver, who fled after the accident.
