Nintendo leaves GTA 6 Switch 2 possibility up to Rockstar Games
Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard says potential GTA 6 Switch 2 release is up to Rockstar and Take-Two

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has left the possibility of Grand Theft Auto VI coming to Switch 2 to Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive, offering no confirmation of a potential port.
Speaking in a recent interview, Pritchard said the decision would be a matter for the companies behind the upcoming game. According to Kotaku, she added that she had nothing to announce.
GTA 6 is not scheduled to arrive on Switch 2 at launch, leaving the Nintendo console out of the game’s initial release plans. However, Pritchard’s comments did not rule out a future version.
Nintendo Life noted that bringing the game to Switch 2 could require considerable optimisation. The publication also pointed to technologies such as DLSS and frame generation, which can improve image quality and performance on supported hardware.
Whether the console can run GTA 6 to a satisfactory standard remains unclear. The game is expected to be a major entertainment release, but neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced plans for a Switch 2 version.
Other Rockstar titles are also absent from the console. Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have not received Switch 2 ports, despite releases on other platforms.
The original Red Dead Redemption, however, arrived on Switch 2 in late 2025 with improved visuals and performance.
Fong, a technical director at Virtuous, the studio behind the Nintendo Switch port of L.A. Noire, said the team was interested in adapting Rockstar’s other games for the system.
Switch 2 owners can already play Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on the console, offering access to earlier entries in the series.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has its own releases scheduled around GTA 6’s planned November launch. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is due on November 5.
