Britney Spears has released “She’ll Never Be Me”, a previously unreleased song recorded in 2001 for her third studio album, Britney, giving fans an official look into her musical archives ahead of the record’s 25th anniversary reissue.

The pop star shared the track on October 9, 2026. Spears co wrote the song with her then boyfriend Justin Timberlake, alongside Bradley Daymond and Alex Greggs. Riprock ‘n’ Alex G handled production.

The self assured pop track centres on an ex who has moved on with someone resembling the singer. Its lyrics emphasise Spears’ individuality and suggest that a new partner cannot replace her.

“She’ll Never Be Me” will feature on Britney (25th Anniversary Edition), scheduled for release on November 6. It is the first of five tracks being made available for the first time as part of the expanded edition.

The additional songs include “Am I a Sinner”, “When I Say So” and “My Big Secret”. The collection will also feature a studio recording of “Right Now (Taste The Victory)”, originally associated with a 2002 Pepsi commercial.

Released in 2001, Britney followed the success of ...Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again. The album presented a more mature musical image for Spears and included singles such as “Overprotected”, “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” and “I’m a Slave 4 U”.

Spears famously performed the latter song at the 2001 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, appearing with a large python during the memorable stage performance.

“She’ll Never Be Me” marks Spears’ first release of previously unheard original material since her 2023 collaboration with will.i.am, “Mind Your Business”. Her most recent charting release was “Hold Me Closer”, her 2022 duet with Elton John.

The anniversary edition offers listeners a chance to hear material recorded during a defining period of Spears’ career, including songs that did not make the original album’s final track listing.
