‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer takes on Amazon’s new ‘Stargate’ series
‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer is developing a new ‘Stargate’ sci-fi series for Amazon MGM Studios

Jac Schaeffer, the creator of Marvel’s WandaVision, is developing a new Stargate television series for Amazon MGM Studios, according to Variety. The project is part of Schaeffer’s overall deal with the studio, which was announced earlier this year.
A writers’ room is expected to open in the near future, according to sources familiar with the project. Schaeffer will executive produce the new sci-fi series alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Representatives for Amazon MGM Studios and Schaeffer declined to comment.
The upcoming series marks Amazon’s second attempt to revive the Stargate franchise for television. Martin Gero had previously been reported to be developing a new entry in the science fiction universe, but that project ultimately did not move forward.
Schaeffer brings considerable experience in genre television to the project. She created WandaVision, the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series released on Disney+, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda Maximoff and Vision. The series received 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and earned widespread critical acclaim following its 2021 debut.
She later created Agatha All Along, a WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Schaeffer served as the showrunner, writer and executive producer on the series and also directed episodes.
Her earlier writing credits include Disney’s animated featurette Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and the 2019 comedy The Hustle, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.
The Stargate franchise began with the 1994 science fiction film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring James Spader and Kurt Russell. The film inspired Stargate SG-1, which ran for 10 seasons, followed by Stargate Atlantis, which aired for five seasons from 2004 to 2008.
Further details about the new Stargate series, including its cast, storyline and release date, have not been announced.
