Sadie Sink is in talks to star in The Guest, a film adaptation of Emma Cline’s bestselling novel, with Lorene Scafaria reportedly in discussions to direct the project.
According to Variety, A24 and Square Peg are behind the adaptation of Cline’s 2023 novel, which follows Alex, a young woman who is asked to leave the Long Island home of her wealthy older boyfriend during the final days of summer. Determined to return, she attempts to navigate her way through the wealthy communities of the Hamptons while trying to make it back to him.
The novel explores themes of class, power, desire and social manipulation through Alex’s attempts to secure a place for herself in unfamiliar surroundings. Its tense narrative follows her as she moves between people and places, relying on her ability to persuade others that she belongs.
Sink is best known for playing Max Mayfield in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Since the series concluded, she has taken on stage roles, including a Broadway performance in John Proctor Is the Villain and a West End production of Romeo & Juliet opposite Noah Jupe.
Scafaria previously directed Hustlers, the 2019 crime drama starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, and has worked on television projects including Succession. The potential adaptation would bring Cline’s psychological novel to the screen under the A24 and Square Peg banner.
No further casting details or production timeline have been announced.
