KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) have expressed strong anger over revelations that failed students of SM and Islamia law colleges were allegedly passed through illegal manipulation of examination results at the University of Karachi.

They described the alleged malpractice as a continuation of the biased and anti-education policies of the ruling PPP in Sindh and alleged that over the past 15 years, the provincial government had pushed educational institutions across the province, particularly in Karachi, towards deterioration through mismanagement and corruption.

They also alleged that manipulation of results, bribery and favouritism in the university's examination system reflected the same mindset, aimed at undermining merit and depriving talented and hardworking students in urban Sindh of their rightful opportunities.

They demanded of the KU vice chancellor to order an impartial investigation through the FIA into the officials and staff allegedly involved in tampering with results, as well as those who provided them protection, and ensure their immediate dismissal and arrest. Meanwhile, the MQM-P spokesperson has expressed strong concern and condemnation over reports that Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) plans to relocate more than 500 employees and its central business operations from Karachi to Islamabad, describing the move as another blow to the city's economic rights.

The spokesperson said shifting the central operations of a major national institution that had been based in Karachi for nearly seven decades would undermine the city's economic role and the rights of its citizens.
