Seasonal illnesses surge across Quetta
Cold, dry weather fuels respiratory ailments

QUETTA:
A sharp rise in seasonal illnesses has been reported across Quetta following the recent change in weather. Children, women, young people and the elderly are increasingly falling ill with colds, flu, cough, fever, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems. Patients already suffering from asthma and allergies are also facing greater difficulties.
The sudden drop in temperature combined with dry and cold winds has led to a noticeable increase in health complaints among residents. Outpatient departments (OPDs) at both government and private hospitals in the city are witnessing heavy rush, with large numbers of people seeking treatment daily for weather-related ailments.
Health experts note that viral infections tend to spread more rapidly during seasonal transitions. Cold and dry air further aggravates respiratory conditions, asthma and allergies.
Experts recommend wearing a mask outdoors to protect against dust and cold winds. They also advise drinking lukewarm water, consuming hot beverages, soup and maintaining a balanced diet. If symptoms persist or breathing becomes difficult, people should consult a doctor promptly rather than self-medicating.
Parents have been urged to protect children from cold winds and abrupt temperature changes, while special care is advised for the elderly and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
