Prince Harry has spoken about experiencing depression after moving to Canada with Meghan Markle and their son Archie in late 2019.

Speaking during a new MasterClass, Harry, 42, described the effect of leaving what he called a stressful environment after stepping down as a senior working royal. His comments were reported by People.

“Being in Canada, away from the stressful environment where presumably my body was just pumped full of adrenaline, within two or three days, I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I’d never experienced before,” Harry said. “It was as if I needed stress in order to get the adrenaline to make my brain function because I became useless around the house.”

Harry said the change affected his mental health significantly.

“I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks,” the Duke of Sussex recalled. “I felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline.”

Harry and Meghan later moved to California, where they welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

The couple subsequently returned to England in August, with their children expected to attend school locally.

Harry previously described the recent period as “eventful” when speaking to Hello! about his return to the UK.

The couple’s decision to return has not been fully explained.

A source told Us Weekly, that Harry was “not as happy” in the United States and that the family was “open to a new chapter”.

Meanwhile, King Charles III has confirmed that Harry and Meghan will not resume royal duties.

In a letter obtained by multiple outlets, the King wrote: “The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity.”
